roof surveys

Conducting roof surveys for maintenance and repair

A roof survey is a study conducted by a professional roofer and can take a number of different forms. It can also be done for several different reasons including inspecting a property before an offer is made to buy it and to make sure recent bad weather hasn’t caused damage to the roof. MT Roofing can conduct any of the main types of roof surveys on your property.

Types of roof surveys

Visual inspections still remain the most common type of roof survey and involves the roofer physically climbing onto the roof and looking around, even testing some of the roof. It can involve taking photos or videos as required to show the condition of the roof. It often also includes inspecting guttering, fascia’s and other associated roof elements.

An extended camera survey may be used if there are areas of the roof that cannot be reached by a person or may not be safe. It involves the use of a long camera mast to take photos of the affected area.

Why you need a roof survey

A roof survey may be a part of the overall survey of the house when it is being bought and sold. It is ideal for potential homeowners to know the state of the roof before they buy a property and this can be a costly repair afterwards if it is in poor condition.

It may be that the survey follows a period of bad weather or a leak and is used to assess the rest of the roof to make sure there are no further problems. Or a homeowner may simply want the roof checking if it hasn’t been surveyed for a period of time.
